August 2009:
A day of golf organised by Lorica Consulting last week (Friday 28th August 09) will leave a lasting legacy.
It might not have had the same global significance as Christmas Truce: The Western Front in the Great War when on Christmas Eve 1914 German, British and French soldiers laid down their arms and lit candles, sang carols and even played a game of football ...
... but a group of youngsters might beg to disagree.
In what has become an annual industry event, over 100 professionals came together from intermediaries and insurers alike, in mixed teams, putting their differences to one side, ceased "hostilities" and concentrated on raising money for The Neuroblastoma Society (www.nsoc.co.uk).
Neuroblastoma is a rare and aggressive childhood cancer. About a hundred children in the UK are diagnosed each year. The Society works exclusively for these children in raising funds for British research into the disease, and offering information and support for anyone affected by neuroblastoma.
A day of golf, a dinner and a charity auction (hosted by Alan Brazil) resulted in over £30,000 being raised, which Lorica's CEO David Battle described as "incredible."
"Given the present business climate," Battle added, "everyone who took part was simply incredible with their generosity."
